East Omak’s 4th Grade Math Is Cool Team Brings Home First Place
East Omak Elementary’s 4th Grade Math Is Cool team achieved a major victory, earning first place at the Math Is Cool Competition held on March 28th at Foothills Middle School in Wenatchee.
This annual competition brought together 311 students from across Washington State, divided into divisions. East Omak competed in the Pi Division, which included 14 schools and 155 participants—and proudly clinched first place in their division!
The team, made up of twenty 4th graders and five 3rd graders, also celebrated impressive individual achievements. Five students placed in the top 10 for individual scores:
· Finn Taylor (4th grade) earned 1st place overall and received the Best in School Award
· Zachary McCuistion (4th grade) took 2nd place
· Maddox Burelo (4th grade) earned 5th place
· Jackie Peoples (4th grade) placed 8th
· Willow Diaz (3rd grade) took 10th place
Coach Melissa Omer credits the team's outstanding performance to their dedication and hard work, which began back in November with practices held twice a week. She also expressed appreciation for East’s incredible teachers, whose support helps students thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Congratulations to the Math Is Cool team on this exciting achievement!

On Tuesday, March 25, East Omak Elementary hosted its annual school spelling bee, and it was an exciting and impressive event! Twelve classes held their own classroom bees to determine a winner and alternate, who were then selected to compete in the school-wide bee. Students from 3rd to 5th grade participated and competed with great enthusiasm.
After 17 challenging rounds and a nail-biter of a final, 5th grader Rory Miller emerged victorious, correctly spelling the word Oysters. 5th grader Cloud Peoples secured 2nd place, while 4th grader Adamari Calderon took 3rd place. These students worked hard and demonstrated exceptional spelling skills, and we couldn't be prouder of their achievements!
The other participants in the bee, all of whom showed great perseverance and dedication, were: Jackie Peoples, Genessee Louie, Averee Wilson, Chloe Bleakney, Liam Cornella, Ulyssia Desautel, Paisley Kramer, and Daniell Haywood. We are so proud of each one of them for their effort and determination!
We were thrilled to see a wonderful turnout of family and friends supporting these amazing spellers.
