Omak High School FFA Annual Plant Sale

Lunch Hero Appreciation Day

On Thursday, March 21, East Omak Elementary held its annual school spelling bee. 13 classes held classroom bees to determine a winner and an alternate, who was then recommended to the school-wide Bee. Students from 3rd -5th grade participated and competed against one another. After fifteen hard-won rounds, 5th grader Desmond Truitt was victorious for the second year in a row, spelling the word DELIBERATELY correctly. 4th grader Meleah Giles took 2nd place, and 5th grader Cesar Cajija took 3rd place. These students worked hard and studied; we could not be prouder of their master spelling skills. The other participants in the Bee were Rory Miller, Kaia Ortuno, Lilyanne Sherwood, Brittany Klett, Acacia Duran, Kynnedi O’Dell, Kasen Bessette, Diesel Huston, and Max Espino. We are so proud of their hard work and perseverance!
There was a great turnout of family and friends to cheer these amazing spellers on.
We are excited about the prospect of an even larger pool of contestants next year, and we encourage all students to consider participating in this exciting event!

Ms. Wilson's 3rd-grade class had an opportunity to have Cpl. Wilson, Deputy Lewis, and K9 Gambit from CCRJC in Wenatchee come and spend the day with them. The officers come and hang out with the kids, teach them what K9 Gambit does, all about what a day doing their job is like, and watch K9 Gambit do some training exercises. They also did an outdoor presentation for the entire third grade and the Life Skills class. It is one of the highlights of the year for the kids.

In March, East Omak Elementary's PE teacher, Mr. Agee and 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Agee attended the Growing School Gardens Summit. This conference was funded by the National Association of Conservation Districts and a Slow Foods grant.
Sixteen educators from across Okanogan County, representing eight school gardens in our county, were in attendance with over 500 other school garden advocates from across the country! Mr. and Mrs. Agee learned about planning gardens and techniques in the planting of various crops within school gardens.
Mr. and Mrs. Agee are using the training they received to start an after-school garden club this month, where students will learn to maintain garden beds, tend the plants and soil, and hopefully develop plans to grow food at home!
