Omak Middle School students took part in the Nature Immersion Program, where they were taken into the wilderness and learned survival skills. They learned how to be good stewards of the land, flintknapping, hide tanning, root digging, and basket weaving. They also learned how to build a shelter and create tee-pee poles.

Another great Board CTE meeting.
Students from the Middle School and High School presented several different projects that they are currently working on and have completed throughout the school year. The students expressed how much they enjoyed the CTE experience and wished that some of the new classes, like aviation, had been offered earlier in their high school careers.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs are essential for providing students with practical skills and knowledge to prepare them for various careers. The hands-on learning showcases how CTE programs offer hands-on learning experiences that engage students and help them develop valuable skills. Discuss specific projects, internships, and apprenticeships that allow students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.

In March, East Omak Elementary's PE teacher, Mr. Agee and 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Agee attended the Growing School Gardens Summit. This conference was funded by the National Association of Conservation Districts and a Slow Foods grant.
Sixteen educators from across Okanogan County, representing eight school gardens in our county, were in attendance with over 500 other school garden advocates from across the country! Mr. and Mrs. Agee learned about planning gardens and techniques in the planting of various crops within school gardens.
Mr. and Mrs. Agee are using the training they received to start an after-school garden club this month, where students will learn to maintain garden beds, tend the plants and soil, and hopefully develop plans to grow food at home!
