Congratulations to three Omak High School students for being selected for and performing in the 2024 Sarge Huber Honor Festival in Quincy, Washington on October 24th. Reggie Welke and Algin Nanamkin were selected for the high school choir and Maxton Brantner was selected for the high school band. These students represent the top 10% of student musicians in the North Central Washington region.

A fire truck responded to Omak middle school this afternoon at about 2:15. A Chromebook, see picture, spontaneously caught on fire in the classroom. It burned the desk a little bit, but they were able to get the Chromebook and the desk outside without any damage to the building. No students were injured.

Soaring High: Omak Aviation Classes Take Flight with Hot Air Balloons!
The brand-new Aviation class, introduced for the 2024-25 school year, is already reaching new heights—literally! Students have been diving into the exciting world of engineering through hands-on projects, and their latest adventure was nothing short of amazing. Armed with glue, tissue paper, and a little duct tape, these future engineers set out to design and build their very own hot air balloons! In true engineering fashion, they meticulously inspected their creations over and over, testing for flaws and making improvements, just like the pros do in the Engineering Design process.
Although the weather had other plans and prevented an outdoor launch on the football field, the students didn’t let that stop them! They pivoted with Pioneer Grit, launching their hot air balloons right in the CTE building. It was a sight to behold as their hard work paid off—demonstrating the Pioneer Code of perseverance, energy, and focus. From start to finish, these students showed just how powerful creativity, dedication, and a little teamwork can be. We’re so proud of their efforts and can’t wait to see what this new Aviation class will engineer next!

NCW College & Career Expo: Empowering Future Leaders of the Workforce
On October 23, the NCW College & Career Expo brought together educators, students, and local industry professionals in an exciting and collaborative effort to prepare students for the demands of the 21st-century workforce. This event provided a unique opportunity for students to engage with real-world work experiences that both train and inspire them, aligning with the skill sets regional employers are seeking.
Students from grades 9 through 12, representing schools across Okanogan County, participated in a variety of hands-on, work-based activities designed to immerse them in the tools, technologies, and experiences of today’s workplace. The expo also featured interactive exhibits where students explored advanced workplace equipment, reviewed job descriptions, and gained valuable insights directly from professionals across various industries.
What truly added to the excitement was the overwhelming engagement from the industry vendors. Their interactive displays, along with the incredible swag they brought, kept students enthusiastic and eager to learn more about the career paths available to them.
The NCW College & Career Expo was not only a learning experience but also a celebration of the future workforce—equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration they need to succeed in tomorrow’s careers.

🚨 Pioneers Girls Soccer Team Update 🚨
The Omak Pioneers Girls Soccer Team is having an outstanding season with a record of 7-3-1!
This strong junior-heavy squad is making a significant impact on the field, averaging an impressive 4.2 goals per game while maintaining a solid defense that allows only 1.6 goals per game.
Seniors Alexis Gomes and Belicia Sanabria are leading the charge.
In our recent 4-0 victory over Colville, Belicia Sanabria set a school record for most career shutouts and tied the record for most shutouts in a single season. Tonight, she has a chance to break that record against a formidable Okanogan offense.
Sanabria isn’t just a stellar goalkeeper; she’s also a scoring threat when she ventures out of the box, netting 10 goals this season. Close behind are Junior Val Hammer and Sophomore Stevey Priest, each with six goals. Impressively, 11 different players have contributed to the team’s scoring, highlighting their depth and versatility.
In addition to Sanabria, Hammer, and Priest, notable scorers include:
- Juniors Audi Marsden and Cassy Saucedo, each with five goals.
- Junior Laila Ramirez with four goals.
- Juniors Amanda Santistevan and Victoria Hernandez, along with Sophomores Leandra Agee and Alexis Gomez, each with two goals.
- Junior Diana Montoya and Freshman Mia Aguilera, each with one goal.
Assists have also been a collective effort, with Sophomores Stevey Priest and Leandra Agee leading with five assists each. Juniors Cassy Saucedo and Laila Ramirez, as well as Senior Alexis Gomez, have each contributed four assists. Other contributors include Juniors Audi Marsden and Shay'lynn Ochoa with three assists, Val Hammer and Victoria Hernandez with two each, and Diana Montoya with one assist, respectively.
Freshman Amanda Santistevan and 8th grader Ceciley Albert have also been amazing assets on the pitch and have played remarkably for the Pioneers.
Ranked #17 in the state and 2nd in the CTL, the Pioneers are gearing up for a crucial home matchup against Okanogan tonight at 3:30 PM. Historically, the Pioneers have faced tough challenges against the Bulldogs, holding an 0-12 record since 2014, with losses in their last two encounters in 2021 (10-2 and 8-1). However, the team is determined to change this narrative and demonstrate their resilience on the field.
Join us in supporting these incredible athletes as they aim to take down the Okanogan Bulldogs tonight! Let’s rally behind the Omak Pioneers and cheer for a fantastic victory!
