Students have been wanting to paint the bathroom stalls and walls for several years. This project was approved by the ASB and the paint was supplied by the OSD Maintenance department. Student Caiden Vickers took on this project and although it took more time than we had hoped; Caiden is pleased with the results. Well done. OP Nation!

Pioneer Pride Alert! Pioneer sports fans, get ready to cheer! This past weekend, our talented cross-country runners battled it out at the district meet in Yakima and came away with five state qualifiers! Competing on the intense Apple Ridge course — a tough 3-mile stretch of grass and packed dirt with rolling hills — our Pioneers faced off against 13 other teams for their chance to shine at the state championships in Pasco next weekend. Girls' Team Highlights: Our Lady Pioneers put on an incredible performance with Syreni Sandoval (22nd), Ruby Freese (30th), and Sage Buhrig (31st) leading the way to earn their places at state! Ruby Freese stole the spotlight, running her fastest race of the season by 48 seconds with a time of 21:31! Not only did she qualify for her first-ever state championship as a freshman, but she also became the 4th freshman girl to qualify under Coach's leadership. Ruby showed true Pioneer grit! Syreni Sandoval capped her high school XC career with a personal best time of 20:44 — a strong finish that secured her second trip to state. Way to go, Syreni! Sage Buhrig earned her third trip to state, finishing just a step behind Ruby at 21:32, only 8 seconds off her PR on a challenging course. Now that’s consistency and determination! Boys' Team Highlights: Our Men Pioneers showed impressive perseverance with William Boers (17th) and Trenton Werner (38th) making their way to the state meet! Trenton Werner ran his heart out, clocking in his best time of the season at 17:52! Though initially just outside the top 35, Trenton’s grit and determination paid off as he qualified under district protection, creating a thrilling moment of triumph. Caden Arnold closed his season strong with a personal best of 18:07, finishing the season on a high note. Great job, Caden! William Boers also qualified for his first state meet after an incredible season debut in XC, finishing just 10 seconds shy of his PR on a tough course. Amazing effort, William! Now, it's time to rally behind our five fantastic qualifiers as they head to Pasco this weekend for the State Championship! Let’s cheer on Syreni, Ruby, Sage, William, and Trenton as they represent Pioneer pride on the big stage.

A fire truck responded to Omak middle school this afternoon at about 2:15. A Chromebook, see picture, spontaneously caught on fire in the classroom. It burned the desk a little bit, but they were able to get the Chromebook and the desk outside without any damage to the building. No students were injured.

Soaring High: Omak Aviation Classes Take Flight with Hot Air Balloons! The brand-new Aviation class, introduced for the 2024-25 school year, is already reaching new heights—literally! Students have been diving into the exciting world of engineering through hands-on projects, and their latest adventure was nothing short of amazing. Armed with glue, tissue paper, and a little duct tape, these future engineers set out to design and build their very own hot air balloons! In true engineering fashion, they meticulously inspected their creations over and over, testing for flaws and making improvements, just like the pros do in the Engineering Design process. Although the weather had other plans and prevented an outdoor launch on the football field, the students didn’t let that stop them! They pivoted with Pioneer Grit, launching their hot air balloons right in the CTE building. It was a sight to behold as their hard work paid off—demonstrating the Pioneer Code of perseverance, energy, and focus. From start to finish, these students showed just how powerful creativity, dedication, and a little teamwork can be. We’re so proud of their efforts and can’t wait to see what this new Aviation class will engineer next!

NCW College & Career Expo: Empowering Future Leaders of the Workforce On October 23, the NCW College & Career Expo brought together educators, students, and local industry professionals in an exciting and collaborative effort to prepare students for the demands of the 21st-century workforce. This event provided a unique opportunity for students to engage with real-world work experiences that both train and inspire them, aligning with the skill sets regional employers are seeking. Students from grades 9 through 12, representing schools across Okanogan County, participated in a variety of hands-on, work-based activities designed to immerse them in the tools, technologies, and experiences of today’s workplace. The expo also featured interactive exhibits where students explored advanced workplace equipment, reviewed job descriptions, and gained valuable insights directly from professionals across various industries. What truly added to the excitement was the overwhelming engagement from the industry vendors. Their interactive displays, along with the incredible swag they brought, kept students enthusiastic and eager to learn more about the career paths available to them. The NCW College & Career Expo was not only a learning experience but also a celebration of the future workforce—equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration they need to succeed in tomorrow’s careers.
