March 16, 2020
Omak School District Staff and Families,

Friday we received information from the Governor’s Office and State Department of Health regarding Washington’s efforts to reduce the spread and effect of Coronavirus (COVID-19). All schools are to be closed from March 17-April 24, with students returning on Monday, April 27, 2020.

The health and safety of our students, staff and community is our top priority. We continue to monitor the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation and are committed to keeping you updated on our response to this public health crisis.  Below are the most recent updates from the Omak School District.

  • Grades/Credit/Homework/Student-led Conferences: 3rd quarter grades are to be calculated as of March 16, 2020. We will not operate a remote learning program, as not every student has online access. However, teachers may provide optional, non-graded study materials. OSPI and the State Board of Education are working on policy revisions for all grade levels and ensuring that all juniors and seniors have an open pathway to graduation on time. All student-led conferences (April 2-3) will be conducted over the telephone or email.

  • Athletics: Acting in unity with other CTL school districts, Omak SD interscholastic sports will be suspended after the last practice on Monday, March 16th. Practice may resume on April 24th, depending on the guidance form WIAA and OSPI. At this time WIAA attests that there will be state level competition for spring sports. We will continue to re-evaluate the situation as information becomes available.

  • Food Service: Beginning Tuesday, March 17th through Friday, April 24th, the Omak School District is offering a breakfast/lunch "to go" option. Here are some of the details: Pick up locations include North Elementary, East Elementary, and Omak Middle/High School cafeterias. We will serve both breakfast and lunch in one bag. These bags can be picked up any time between the hours of 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday. All students aged 18 and under (both enrolled and not enrolled with Omak SD) will be served. Students aged 19 or older will be served only if they are actively enrolled with Omak SD. All these students are eligible to receive meals from any of the available locations listed. It is our intent to feed through the closure period, including Spring Break. As additional needs are determined in our communities, we will be adding breakfast/lunch "to go" pick up locations. Future distribution locations and times will be made available as soon as possible. Please contact Amie Meese at 509-826-8352 if you have any questions. (Please see 'STUDENT MEALS' information below for delivery locations.)

  • Community Facility Use:  We are suspending all community use of our indoor facilities through April 27th

Please be aware that the COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly developing situation, and we will continue to let you know when changes are made that impact students, families, and staff.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school, as staff will be working.

Thank you,

Dr. Erik Swanson, Superintendent

Note: SAT testing that is scheduled for March 14, 2020 has been cancelled until further notice.

Our main goal is to ensure your children are fed during the extended school closure.

With that being said, cold and flu season is still here. Ways to protect yourself, your family, and others from colds and flu are to get a flu shot, wash hands thoroughly, drink plenty of fluids, and get plenty of rest. We have additional information about the flu in English and español below.
